Are you sure about that CO2 figure - looks a bit low if you're saying that your car would have done somewhere around 16mpg. Cars with that sort of efficiency have CO2 emissions of around 300g/km or something like 1 lb/mile. So for your 38 miles, you're looking at 38lbs - 0.02 Tons!
I used a emissions calculator I found at:

And after running it a second time, you are correct, I'll update the post.

The calculator that I am using assumes 1.57 pounds CO2 per mile for SUVs. This might be higher for what I was driving, which was an '83 Toyota Landcruiser.
I am also assuming that the calculator, using pounds, also uses the short ton for its measurments, rather than the metric or long ton
